Rooster stoneware wall plaque
SoldEnquire about this product
This is a rather unusual rooster wall plaque from the Negro series designed by Marianne Starck for Michael Anderson & Sons in the 1950s.
The series usually include vases and bowls made from stoneware and finished in a very dark brown (almost black) matte glaze against which patterns and lines are set in a semi-gloss, off white glaze. The series appeared to be influenced by African motifs and designs.
This stylised rooster wall plaque moves away from any African influence but include the same dark brown and off-white glaze combination.
The wall plaque measures a maximum of 19cm wide (from the beak to the tail) and 15cm across.
There are two pockets at the back for hanging. The back of the rooster is engraved with the typical Michael Andersen & Sons shield with three fish, the mould number 5624, the stamp DENMARK and the monogram MS (for Marianne Stark).
