A midcentury large, striking wall plaque manufactured in Italy by C.E.M.A.S. and dating to the late 1950s. The plaque has a very organic shape and it is glazed with glossy, mottled bold colours. In its centre it features a Harlequin-like figure – one of the popular characters from the Italian’s Commedia dell’Arte.
The base is marked 8209 ITALY. The wall plaque measures a maximum of 41cm x 28.5cm at its widest points.
C.E.M.A.S ( Ceramiche E Maioliche Artistiche Sesto) was a pottery established in Sesto Fiorentino in Tuscany in the early 1950s and it was closed in the 1970s.
